"I became friends with Esther through Instagram. Being a photographer myself, I had a vision of what I wanted my wedding photos to look like and had full confidence that Esther would be able to provide the photos of my dreams. We spoke for months and months leading up to the wedding day about what I’ve dreamed about my whole life and she truly went above and beyond my expectations!! These photos are PERFECT!!! Thank you SO much Esther for an amazing day!!!"
If you are trying to find effective ways to make new friends, you can add "become a photographer" to that list. A professional photographer though. Don't just start taking pictures of people without asking, because that will probably not lead to friendship. Becoming Craig and Michelle's photographer has led to a beautiful friendship and my favorite opportunity to third wheel. Since Craig and Michelle's wedding I've had coffee at their new house, grabbed screamers with Michelle, hosted them in my backyard, and hit the Sunflower Festival with Michelle. When we aren't together in person, we are sending hilarious texts and videos back and forth via our epic iMessage chat titled "The 3 Musketeers". If you're reading this and wondering if hiring me as your photographer requires that you be one of my best friends, please know that this is not a requirement in my photography contract. But it is a SWEET BONUS!!!
So, how did me, Craig, and Michelle get to this point in our relationship? Well, it all started on Instagram a few YEARS ago when Michelle sent me a message saying she loved my work and would be hiring me when her big day arrived. Michelle was just dating Craig at the time so I was SOOO pumped she had already decided on me. Michelle and I stayed in touch with me on Instagram because she lived on Vancouver Island.
FAST FORWARD through 4 years of dating to PROPOSAL DAY. Craig and Michelle were visiting family in Kelowna and went for a walk on the boardwalk alongside Okanagan Lake. Michelle spotted Craig's sister hiding in the bushes and knew what was about to happen!!! Craig noticed too and said "Well I guess this is happening now" before dropping a knee. After some celebration with family over doughnuts and bubbly, Michelle followed through on her promise years ago and slid into my DMs!!!! Michelle and I became so tight during the months leading up to her wedding. Despite the distance, we would Facetime and end up chatting about more than wedding details because it felt like catching up with an old friend.
"A cord of three strands is not easily broken" Ecclesiastes 4:12
This quote was taken from the beautiful cord of three strands ceremony at Craig and Michelle's wedding, which symbolizes the joining of a man, a woman, and God in the marriage relationship. Craig and Michelle wanted to communicate their strong faith in the Lord, who they place at the centre of their relationship. This ceremony was made even more beautiful by the BREATHTAKING scenery at the venue, Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island.
Craig and Michelle's wedding day brought me even more friends, as I had a BLAST with their family, wedding party, and Craig and Michelle during portraits. After an amazing photoshoot and delicious food, I returned home at 11:55 PM. I should mention I had left my house that morning at 5:45 AM. Boy, was I tired! Did I sleep right away? No way!!! It was time to back up those precious photos and edit sneak peeks until the middle of the night. This was followed by a good, long sleep-in the next morning.
Craig and Michelle, I am so pumped to call you guys my dear friends and I respect your strong faith in the Lord and your amazing character both individually and as a couple. Love you both lots! SHOUT OUT to Instagram for introducing us!!!
